Before you book
- An Indian passport is required (Voter ID is not enough for Tibet).
- Permits are issued by the Chinese authorities each season, so dates and group rules can change. We confirm what is possible when you enquire.
- The yatra reaches over 5,000 m during the parikrama. A medical check-up before travel is strongly advised.
Frequently asked questions
When does the Kailash Mansarovar yatra season run?
Normally from May to September, subject to the Tibet permits being issued for that year. Peak departures are around the full-moon dates (Guru Purnima and Shravan Purnima).
What documents does an Indian pilgrim need?
A passport valid for at least six months, photos and a medical fitness certificate. The China group visa and Tibet permits are applied for by our partners using your passport scan, so send documents well in advance.
Overland or helicopter: which route is better?
Helicopter via Simikot takes fewer days overall and suits pilgrims short on time. The overland route via Kathmandu is more gradual for acclimatisation and allows larger groups. We will recommend one based on your group.
